
| Rev. Bissette was born in Rocky Mount, NC. He attended Rhodes College, receivinig his BA and continued his studies with an MA in Religious Studies from the Universisty of Chicago Divinity School and an MDiv from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. On July 30, 1989 Brent was ordained as a Minisster of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian CHurch (USA), and has since developed and used his pastoral gifts in several ministry settings. His first pastoral assignment was a co-pastor of Calypso Presbyterian Church, a 130 member rural congragation in Duplin County, NC. Since 1993 he has trained and served as a hospital chaplain at REX Healthcare, UNC Hospitals and Duke University Medical Center. Beginning in 2001, he has served as a hospice chaplain for Tender Loving Care Hospice, with clients ina six-county area. Brent began attending the United Church of Chapel Hill in 1998, in search of a church enviornmnet more supportive of his gifts for parish ministry. In June, 2004, he received Privilege of Call from the Eastern NC Association of the UnitedChurch of Christ. |
Brent was called to serve as Interim Minister of Christian Education for Pilgram UCC in Durham in August 2004 and finished this service in June 2005. In this journey with the United Church of Christ, he has grown to love the diverse UCC community of faith and to appreciate its blend of congregatiional government and commitment to seek ecumenical unity. A resident of Durham, NC, Brent lives with his lifetime partner, Richard, and 17 year old daughter Abigail. |
